i’ve had a slow morning but have been killing it since noon today. Minus the fire alarm for the building going off around 2, it’s been a fantastic and productive day. How about you all?

We had an electrical issue that took down power to most of the campus this morning. This was followed by power coming back on for part of our building and the spreading smell of burning electronics coming from a utility corridor for HVAC stuff in our area of the library. Between a combination of the fire department being busy letting people out of elevators across campus and our building monitor person conveying that our problem was HVAC systems not coming back online instead of the immediate concern of an electrical fire in the portion of the library that houses all the unique paper that can’t be replaced, I took it upon myself to break into the utility corridor and make sure we didn’t have an active electrical fire (we didn’t). Access control (it turns out our “master” keys don’t open utility spaces in the building) and confined space rules be damned, I wasn’t waiting to find out whether we had a fire.

For my boss and my bosses boss, they learned that lock bumping is a thing and that any standard lock is only an illusion of security. He only asked afterward that I show him how I did it. I’ll file it under other duties as assigned for the HR types.

And that was after my computer took two hours to finish updating this morning. It hasn’t been particularly productive, but it has been interesting. We don’t usually have days like this in academic research libraries.

I’ve spent the last couple of weeks rolling out a project to make everything easier for the sales teams in our office. Finally finished today - it was one of those days where I was in-and-out of meetings and by the time I thought about lunch there was only an hour left in the day, so I just used my “lunch” to go home early.

I got home and realized I don’t really have any groceries, so I believe tonight will be a pizza night (yay!) unless I can think of something else I want more.

Even better if you have a bit of meat to add along with a bit of veg like bean sprouts and bok choy (spinach works in a pinch, too), and maybe even an egg.

I wanted a project vehicle and ended up picking up a distressed 50cc scooter. I think I have all the systems working again after a bunch of new parts, but there’s a leak between the exhaust port and the header, so I need to wait for an improved gasket I ordered to come in order to finish verifying the tune on the carb. Then, time to reassemble the body and two wheels good!

Filthy. I keep getting sidetracked and haven’t cleaned it in a while. I did do my spring maintenance routine though. This year it included bleeding the clutch, because I was noticing it becoming flaccid after sitting a while. It actually helped shifting in general too.
